Luggage
Gontijo ensures that your luggage is packed and transported with care and safety. It is our responsibility to maintain the integrity of your belongings, stored in the luggage compartments, so that you reach your destination comfortably and without worry.
The cost of your ticket includes the transportation of items in the luggage hold and overhead compartment, observing the following weight and size limits:
In the luggage hold: the weight limit is thirty kilograms, and the volume must not exceed 300 cubic decimetres (0.3 cubic metre). Rules for transporting items:
- The item must not exceed 300,000 cm³ in volume (height × width × length).
To calculate: multiply the three measurements in centimetres.
Example: 50 cm (height) × 60 cm (width) × 80 cm (length) = 240,000 cm³ → Allowed. - No side of the item can be more than 100 cm (1 metre).
In the overhead compartment: the weight limit is five kilograms with dimensions that fit the compartment, provided the comfort and safety of passengers are not compromised. If this limit is exceeded, the company will charge for the excess luggage and it will be transported in the luggage hold.
Luggage in the overhead compartment is the full responsibility of the passenger.
LIST OF ITEMS AND MATERIALS PROHIBITED FOR TRANSPORT
The boarding of products that are not compatible with coach luggage compartments and that compromise the safety of the vehicle and others is prohibited: Brazilian wildlife, birds and wild animals (IBAMA) / weapons / ammunition and explosives / products without appropriate packaging / gases and liquids of any kind in pressurised cylinders / flammable fuels or gases / fragile products / paint and its derivatives / honey / motorbikes, assembled or disassembled.
The transport of gas bottles, full or empty, is prohibited.
CONDITIONS FOR TRANSPORT OF PERISHABLE GOODS
In the case of transporting perishable food, they must be kept in appropriate cool boxes, so that the time and temperature conditions do not compromise their hygienic and sanitary quality. The containers must be clean, well-preserved and packed in a leak-proof plastic bag internally, according to regulations established by health surveillance authorities.
TRANSPORT IN THE OVERHEAD COMPARTMENT
The transport of seafood or any other perishable product in the overhead compartment is prohibited.
The criteria for the transport of perishable goods were established by the Regular Passenger Transport Management – ANTT Ombudsman, Protocol No.1651880.
EXCESS LUGGAGE
With the new ANTT Resolution 6.033, excess luggage is considered an ancillary service, granting companies autonomy in charging for it.
The charge for excess luggage will be according to the kilometre distance of the journey (Check the kilometre distance on your Ticket).

Attention: The charge for excess luggage is based on the Kilometre of the journey travelled.
What are the rules for transporting animals?
The company only transports DOMESTIC FAUNA animals, which are exempt from any processing with IBAMA. Animals that, due to their species, size, ferocity, venom, or health, compromise the integrity and safety of the vehicle, its occupants, or third parties cannot be transported.

At Gontijo, we transport your little pet on our trips. Please pay attention to the procedures below for a smooth and safe journey.
Journey Duration: The journey time must not exceed 24 hours.
Seat Acquisition: To transport an animal, purchase two adjacent seats (side by side) with the same departure and destination. If traveling with a companion, it is not necessary to purchase a separate ticket for the animal, as long as the purchased seats are together.
Size and Processing: We only transport domestic animals, of small size, exempt from processing with IBAMA. Dogs or cats must weigh up to 8kg and measure up to 50cm. Only one animal is allowed per container.
Animal Conditions: To transport a dog or cat, an up-to-date vaccination card must be presented along with a health certificate valid for up to 30 days. For other animals, the Animal Transport Guide (GTA) is required.
Transport Accommodation: The animal must be in an appropriate container, measuring up to 41cm x 36cm x 33cm (length, width, height), lined and sealed to prevent leakage of waste. The passenger is responsible for cleaning at stop points.
Guide Dog: Guide dogs have free access as per Federal Law 11.126 of 2005, without restrictions on the procedures.
Emotional Support Animals: Follow the same procedures established by the transport provider.
Request: DOWNLOAD the form, send it filled with all the requested information, along with the health certificate, vaccination card, and GTA (if applicable) at least 3 days in advance to transporte.animal@gontijo.com.br. Our team will respond by sending a form with authorization.
Boarding: Present the form authorized by the company, vaccination card, health certificate, and GTA (if applicable) at boarding.
Important: The animal must remain in the transport container for the entire time it is on the bus, to ensure no risk to the integrity of our staff, passengers, or third parties.
Impediment: The transport of an animal that does not comply with these requirements will be prohibited, and the responsible passenger must arrange for the animal's disposal without cost to the transport company.
Passenger Agreement: Even if all documents are up to date and authorized by the company, the animal will only board if all passengers agree. In this case, your ticket will be refunded within a maximum of 30 days.
Responsibility for Animal's Health:The company is not responsible for the animal's health during the journey.
What are the rules for Baggage transport?
The ticket price already includes the transport of items in the luggage compartment and the overhead storage, observing the following weight and dimension limits:
